Patna: A gruesome murder in Patna’s Ramakrishna Nagar area has been solved with the arrest of three people, including the victim’s own son and two grandsons. Police disclosed today that the 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with an iron rod following a long-standing property dispute over a small parcel of land.
The deceased has been identified as Shiv Bhajan Vishwakarma, a resident of Chandmari Road, Kankarbagh, who was killed on July 18. According to East SP Parichay Kumar, the main accused, Alok Nath, the victim’s elder son, called his father to his home on that day under the pretense of resolving a dispute over 3 decimal of land.
A heated argument quickly escalated into violence. “When the father came home, a dispute started over the land. Alok Nath and his two sons began to beat the elderly man with an iron rod,” said SP Parichay Kumar. The accused’s wife reportedly attempted to intervene but was unable to stop the attack.
After the murder, the son and grandsons allegedly used a bike to dispose of the body, dumping it in a deserted area in Mahadevnagar. The body was discovered the next day, on July 19, and was identified by the victim’s younger son, with whom he lived.
The younger son’s subsequent complaint led police to question the elder son, Alok Nath. During questioning, the full details of the crime were revealed. Recognizing the gravity of the case, police formed a special team under the leadership of ASP Abhinav and Kankarbagh Station House Officer Abhay Kumar. The team successfully arrested the three accused within five hours of the confession. The police have also recovered the iron rod used in the murder and the bike used to transport the body.
The SP confirmed that a long-running property dispute was the motive for the murder, citing the elder son’s motive to claim the land for himself.
