Patna: New land registration rules in Bihar will come into effect from April 1, 2026, requiring applicants to furnish 13 specific details while registering property, in a move aimed at increasing transparency in documentation.
According to officials, the decision has been taken to streamline and digitise the document registration process under the state government’s Saat Nischay 3 programme. A letter outlining the new provisions has been sent to all district collectors by CK Anil, principal secretary of the revenue and land reforms department, and Ajay Yadav, secretary of the prohibition, excise and registration department.
Under the revised framework, applicants will be required to provide the following 13 details:
- Name of the registration office
- Zone
- Mouza
- Police station
- Account number
- Khasra
- Land area
- Boundary details
- Jamabandi
- Name of the Jamabandi holder
- Buyer’s name
- Seller’s name and land type
- Login credentials on the e-registration portal
To initiate the process, applicants must create an account on the e-registration portal and log in before submitting the required information. Officials said that if an applicant does not select the option for updated land information, the registration office will proceed in accordance with the previously prescribed procedures.
In cases where additional verification is required, the request will be forwarded to the concerned circle officer or revenue officer through their official login, and an automated message will be generated. The zonal officer will then verify the information uploaded through the portal.
Following verification, applicants will receive a message with complete information within 10 days. If the registry office does not provide the requested information within that period, it will be assumed that the applicant has failed to furnish accurate details.
The government maintains that the revised system is intended to ensure greater accountability and reduce discrepancies in land documentation across the state.
