Patna: Bihar will organise two Lok Adalats in September and December this year to facilitate the disposal and waiver of eligible traffic challans, officials said at a departmental review meeting on Tuesday.
No further Lok Adalats for traffic challan-related matters will be organised after these two, according to information shared during the meeting held at the Convention Hall in the Main Secretariat complex.
The meeting was chaired by Transport Minister Damodar Rawat and covered key departmental programmes, including PM e-Drive, Pink Bus, PM e-Bus, hit-and-run protocols, road safety, permits and driving test tracks.
Electric Vehicle Numbers Rise
Officials reported a 33 per cent increase in the number of electric vehicles registered in Bihar over the past two months. Three-wheelers accounted for a significant share of the increase.
Rawat directed officials to regularly review departmental operations and work towards meeting the department’s revenue targets.
He also instructed officials to resolve pending cases related to driving licences, learner’s licences and registration certificates promptly.
ITMS Implementation Planned
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said the department would soon implement the Intelligent Technology Management System (ITMS), which will use technology to automate action against traffic violations.
He directed officials to conduct regular surprise inspections of public transport vehicles and check the availability and functioning of facilities such as panic buttons and ticketing systems.
1,582 Rural Bus Stops Under Construction
State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan said 1,582 passenger bus stops are under construction in rural areas of Bihar, with work on 1,095 already completed.
He also urged District Transport Officers to extend cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of inland water transport projects.
Atul Verma, Administrator of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), said that following an agreement for deluxe bus services to Haryana, preparations are underway to start regular bus operations from Bihar to Delhi.
