Patna : Bihar is set to step up mineral exploration and mining activities, with the state government planning surveys across 44 mining blocks and working towards starting mining operations from October 15, 2026.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced the plans while inaugurating a workshop on the auction of critical and strategic mineral blocks, organised by the National Mineral Exploration and Development Trust (NMET) at Hotel Maurya in Patna.

44 Mining Blocks to Be Surveyed
The Chief Minister said the government has undertaken studies of mineral blocks across Bihar and intends to complete the process of making these blocks operational within nine months.
According to the state government, survey work has already progressed in 28 of the 44 identified mining blocks. More than 30 mining blocks are targeted to be allocated before September 30, with initiatives to begin mining operations from October 15.

Bihar Targets ₹5 Lakh Crore Investment
The government also plans to establish a mineral centre in the state and work towards achieving an investment target of ₹5 lakh crore by November.
Chaudhary urged investors to consider Bihar as a destination for industrial investment, assuring them of government support and incentives for setting up industries in the state.
Mineral Resources Identified Across Several Districts
The Chief Minister highlighted the mineral potential of several districts. Rohtas has significant limestone resources, while Aurangabad has a substantial mineral belt.
He also pointed to mineral resources in Jehanabad and Jamui, as well as potential resources in Gaya, Banka and Bhagalpur.
The government intends to make greater use of these resources while ensuring that Bihar’s historical and cultural heritage is protected.

Mining Royalties to Be Used for Public Welfare
Chaudhary said revenue generated through mineral royalties would be utilised for the welfare of Bihar’s people and the state’s development.
He stressed that the government would not allow the misuse of mineral resources at any level.
The Chief Minister also said Bihar’s budget has reached ₹3.47 lakh crore and that the state has significant potential to accelerate development by making better use of its available resources.
Government Invites Investors to Bihar
The Chief Minister said investors are being offered various incentives to establish industries in Bihar and urged businesses to invest in the state.
He assured investors that the Bihar government would extend necessary support and provide a secure environment for businesses to operate.
The event was also addressed by Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Coal and Mines Kadam Sandeep V.
Mining and Geology Minister Pramod Kumar, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Mining and Geology Department Secretary Avanish Kumar Singh and other senior officials and dignitaries were also present.
