Patna: The Bihar government is planning to develop modern bus depots and terminals in more than 30 cities, including Patna, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model as part of an initiative to upgrade public transport infrastructure.
According to the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), government land has been identified at more than 30 locations across the state for the proposed projects. The new terminals are intended to provide improved passenger amenities while creating commercially sustainable transport hubs.
Land Identified Across Multiple Districts
BSRTC has identified around five acres of land for a new bus depot in Patna. About one acre of government land has also been earmarked for depots in Paliganj, Mokama and Naubatpur, where departmental procedures are underway.
Larger land parcels have been identified in several districts, including 5.57 acres in Aurangabad, 5.11 acres in Muzaffarpur, 4.95 acres in Gaya, 4.72 acres in Jamui and 4.57 acres in Nawada.
More than three acres of government land have also been identified in Bihar Sharif, Purnia, Tarapur in Munger district and Darbhanga.
The proposed network will also cover Bhagalpur, Saharsa, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Motihari, Chhapra, Sultanganj, Barbigha, Chakai, Sitamarhi, Ara, Jehanabad, Sangrampur, Bhadauni and Rajgir.
Multi-Modal Transport Hubs Planned
According to BSRTC, the new facilities will be developed as multi-modal transport hubs, allowing passengers to access transport services and essential amenities from a single location.
Officials said commercial activities within the complexes are expected to support the long-term financial sustainability of the projects.
Five-Storey Depots With Passenger Amenities
The proposed bus depots will be built as five-storey structures.
The ground floor will accommodate bus parking, passenger platforms and maintenance workshops. Upper floors will include corporation offices, air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned waiting halls, cafeterias, retail outlets, dormitories, guest rooms, feeding rooms for women, banquet halls, shopping areas, hotels and entertainment spaces.
BSRTC said the facilities are intended to improve passenger convenience while modernising the state’s bus transport network.
Government Sees Economic Benefits
Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said the state government is accelerating efforts to modernise Bihar’s transport infrastructure through the development of world-class bus depots and terminals.
According to the minister, the projects are expected to improve passenger services, strengthen public transport and generate local employment and business opportunities. He added that the government aims to establish modern bus terminals at district headquarters across the state as part of its long-term transport development strategy.
