Patna: Tensions are rising in Bihar as criminal threats against politicians come to light ahead of the state assembly elections. Sitamarhi MP Devesh Chandra Thakur, a key figure in the JD(U) and considered a close aide of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has reportedly received a threat to blow up his residence with dynamite.
According to police, the complaint was lodged at Dumra police station by Manish Kumar Raut, a resident of Radhaur, naming RJD leader Raghavendra Kushwaha, a resident of Kamaldah, as the accused. Investigations are underway.
Authorities said a video circulated on social media in which Kushwaha allegedly threatened the MP and used objectionable language. Police described the statements as potentially “anti-national” and a serious criminal offence.
Dumra police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation. The incident comes amid growing concerns about the safety of politicians in Bihar. In recent months, several senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Union Minister Chirag Paswan, and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha, have reportedly received death threats.
