Patna: The Indian government has approved a Rs 1,547.55 crore project to upgrade a 102 km stretch of National Highway 327E from Parsarma to Araria in Bihar, including the addition of paved shoulders, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced.
Nitin Nabin, Bihar’s Minister of Public Works, said the Indian National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will soon invite tenders under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), with construction expected to take 24 months from the start date. The concessionaire will maintain the highway for 15 years thereafter.
The project will involve the construction of four bypasses – at Parsarma, Supaul, Pipra, and Triveni – alongside a road overbridge, two flyovers, six major bridges, 41 minor bridges, one vehicular underpass, two small vehicular underpasses, 75 box or slab culverts, and 86 pipe culverts.
According to Nabin, the upgrade will ease traffic congestion in the densely populated towns along the route, improving safety and travel times. Officials say the development is expected to stimulate socio-economic growth in the flood-prone Kosi region and boost local small and medium-sized enterprises.
The minister added that the project aligns with the state government’s target of enabling residents in remote areas to reach Patna within four hours. Nabin also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for supporting the initiative.
