Patna: The Bihar government has launched a subsidy scheme aimed at encouraging farmers, cooperatives and young entrepreneurs to set up oil crushing mills, as part of a wider push to boost agro-processing and industrial development across the state.
The initiative, announced by the state’s Information and Public Relations Department, offers a subsidy of 33% on the total project cost for establishing a 10-tonne oil crushing mill, estimated at Rs 9.9 lakh. The subsidy applies only to machinery and installation, excluding land and building costs. Officials say the programme is intended to strengthen local oilseed processing and help farmers increase value addition to their produce.

Applications for the scheme opened on December 3 and will remain available until December 15 via the government portal. Eligible applicants include government and private industries, farmers’ producer organisations, registered startups involved in oil processing and cooperative societies.
Government officials said the scheme is expected to support entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance in both rural and urban areas by reducing startup costs and generating employment opportunities.
The subsidy forms part of a broader industrial expansion strategy. Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary has announced plans to invest Rs 26,000 crore in accelerating industrial growth across the state. An Integrated Manufacturing Cluster covering 1,700 acres in Dobhi, Gaya district, is expected to open soon.
The government has also outlined plans to establish 31 new industrial parks across 29 districts, including 10 sector-specific facilities such as textile and pharmaceutical parks. Choudhary said Bihar was “moving towards a new era of industrial transformation” under chief minister Nitish Kumar, with a focus on developing quality infrastructure to attract investment.
