Patna: In Patna, a 60-year-old man was strangled to death by his daughter-in-law and several relatives over a long-standing property dispute, police said.
The victim, identified as Ramesh Mahato, was killed on December 3 on the Mohanpur Tetri road bridge in the Punpun area. Authorities said the incident stemmed from disagreements over property inheritance: Mahato had reportedly expressed his intention to leave his assets to the children of his first wife, angering his second wife’s daughter-in-law, Rani Kumari.
Eastern Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar stated that Rani, 25, conspired with her sister, brother-in-law, and other relatives to carry out the murder. “The main conspirator was Rani Kumari,” Kumar said. “She coordinated the act with her sister, Poonam Devi, via phone, while her brother-in-law, Arvind Mahato, and another accomplice, Ganni Kumar, travelled from Chapra to strangle the victim.”
The police investigation revealed that the plan was hatched four days prior to the killing. On the day of the incident, the accused reportedly took an auto from Chhapra, committed the murder, and returned.
All four accused—Rani Kumari, Poonam Devi (22), Arvind Mahato (30), and Ganni Kumar (34)—have been arrested and are in custody. The case remains under further investigation.
