Buxar: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar visited the Nawanagar Industrial Area in Buxar district on Monday and asked officials to speed up industrial development in the region. The area is being prepared as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and the government hopes this will attract more companies, new investment and thousands of jobs. Kumar said Nawanagar could become a major industrial centre for the state if work continues quickly and in a planned manner.
During the visit, he inspected several operational factories, including Varun Beverages Limited, the PepsiCo bottling plant that produces drinks such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Seven Up, Sting and Slice. The chief minister reviewed the quality lab and spoke to officials about production levels, investment and employment. He also visited a drinking water bottling unit and asked about the company’s market reach.
Kumar then inspected Bharat Plus Ethanol Private Limited, where officials detailed the land area, number of employees, investment level and the growing demand for ethanol. He also toured the Coca-Cola plant operated by SLMG Beverages Limited. Here, he observed the bottling process, water treatment systems and laboratory facilities. Officials said that all these units provide steady employment for local people and contribute to the industrial growth of the district.
The Nawanagar Industrial Area covers 439.68 acres, of which 126.51 acres have been earmarked for the proposed SEZ approved by the Ministry of Commerce in October 2024. Officials said the SEZ will host export-oriented industries whose products will be sent to other states and foreign markets. This is expected to boost Bihar’s share in exports and improve its industrial reputation.
Kumar also reviewed basic infrastructure work, including roads, electricity supply and drainage systems. He said that strong infrastructure and timely progress are essential for attracting more companies. The area already has facilities such as dedicated power feeders, solar streetlights, stormwater drainage and a working women’s hostel.
Before leaving, the chief minister conducted an aerial survey of the Ganga Bridge in Buxar. The bridge, which connects Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, is expected to improve travel and trade between the two states. Kumar said the improved connectivity will support business growth and create new opportunities for the region.
Deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, MLAs, senior officials and district officers were present during the visit.
