Patna: A location once infamous for stench and waste has become a beacon of green transformation in Patna. Rajdhani Vatika, popularly known as Eco Park, stands today as the city’s largest and most visited public park—developed on what used to be the main dumping zone and a polluted drain.
Since 2005, when Patna had only a few parks, the forest department has led a green expansion, increasing the number to 110 parks by 2025. These public spaces now serve not just as recreational zones but as active promoters of physical and mental well-being.
Rajdhani Vatika is equipped with facilities like boating, swings, planet-themed gardens, gender-specific gym equipment, clean toilets, drinking water, a canteen, and a wide variety of state-of-the-art play structures such as arch swings, roller coaster rides, multi see-saws, skating zones, and skywalks. The park hosts thousands of visitors daily, from children to the elderly, who use it for walking, yoga, or leisure.
A major botanical effort has introduced species like Goldmohar, Rakt Chandan, Patli, Swarn Champa, Kanak Champa, Bottle Palm, and Foxtail Palm, adding colour and diversity to the urban environment. The rose garden, in particular, draws large crowds during the winter months.
The Rajdhani Reservoir, part of the same complex, becomes a seasonal stopover for over 30 species of migratory birds every winter, including Comb Duck, Lalsar, Asian Cuckoo, and Grey Hornbill, turning the park into a natural bird sanctuary within city limits.
