Patna: A total of 747 people have been arrested in Bihar during a two-day statewide vehicle-checking drive on August 10 and 11, aimed at curbing criminal activity. The operation, conducted under the leadership of district superintendents of police and other senior officers, also targeted individuals with outstanding warrants — 424 of the arrested were already wanted by authorities.
During the campaign, police seized 51,000 litres of country liquor, 1,263 bottles of foreign liquor, and 30,145 litres of Java Mahua. Officers also arrested 21 intoxicated individuals and recovered 600 grams of smack, 54.45 kg of ganja, and 14 litres of cough syrup.
Weapons were also confiscated during the drive, with seven firearms and two live cartridges recovered from suspects in Patna, Bhojpur, Khagaria, Samastipur, and Araria. Police demolished two country liquor distilleries as part of the operation.
Across the state, 51,225 vehicles were checked, resulting in fines totalling Rs 98,54,100. Among the vehicles inspected, 76 were previously linked to criminal cases.
