Patna: Police in Bihar have raided the residence of JD(U) MLA Amarendra Kumar, also known as Pappu Pandey, after non-bailable warrants were issued against him, his brother Satish Pandey, and a chartered accountant in connection with an alleged land encroachment case.
A team led by superintendent of police Vinay Tiwari arrived at the MLA’s ancestral village, Tulsia, in Gopalganj district on Monday, accompanied by personnel from five police stations. The raid follows an FIR registered at Kuchaikote police station, where Pandey represents the constituency.
Authorities allege that the MLA and his associates were involved in forcibly occupying a 17-acre plot of land using forged documents. The complaint, filed on April 1 by Mirganj resident Jitendra Kumar Rai, claims that locks on rooms located on the property were broken and replaced, and that gunfire was used to intimidate those resisting the takeover.
Police said both Pandey and his brother were not present at the residence at the time of the raid and are believed to be absconding. Officials have not yet confirmed whether any incriminating materials were recovered during the search.
Investigators suspect the alleged encroachment was carried out as part of a coordinated plan involving the accused. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing search and efforts to locate those named in the warrants.
