Patna: Police officers must deal with cases of human trafficking, immoral trafficking and child labour with greater sensitivity, Bihar’s director general of police Vinay Kumar said during a workshop held at the police headquarters in Patna.
Speaking at the event at Sardar Patel Bhavan, he stressed that cases involving missing children require urgent attention. The workshop was organised by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit under the police department’s weak sections division to raise awareness among officers about the seriousness of trafficking-related crimes.
The DGP said that investigations become increasingly complicated if a missing child is not traced quickly. He urged officers to approach such cases with empathy, asking them to imagine the distress families face when a child disappears. “Time is the most valuable factor in these cases,” he said, adding that prompt action significantly increases the chances of solving them.
Police data shows that 506 cases related to human trafficking, immoral trafficking and child labour were registered across the state in 2025. Authorities rescued 1,487 victims from exploitation during the year and arrested 437 suspected traffickers.
Specialised Anti-Human Trafficking Units have been set up in all 44 districts of Bihar, including railway districts, as well as at airports in Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, Gaya International Airport and Darbhanga Airport. A similar unit is also being planned for the airport in Purnia.
Officials also announced that a statewide campaign, Operation Naya Savera 2.0, will be conducted from April 1 to 20 to intensify efforts against trafficking.
