Patna: As the heat begins to rise across Bihar, the state government has assured people that they will not have to suffer frequent power cuts during the summer months. With electricity demand expected to increase sharply, the Energy Department has started special preparations to keep the supply smooth and reliable. A high-level review meeting was recently held under the chairmanship of Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Manoj Kumar Singh, to take stock of the situation and issue fresh directions to power officials.
During the meeting, clear instructions were given to carry out advance maintenance of transformers, feeders and grid substations before the peak summer season. Officials were told to strictly follow all safety and operating rules so that consumers do not face interruptions even during the hottest days. Special focus has been placed on hot-line maintenance, which allows repairs to be done without shutting down the power supply. Weak and faulty lines will be identified quickly and repaired to prevent sudden breakdowns.
The Energy Secretary also directed field teams to remain on alert around the clock. He stressed that quick response to faults would be key to avoiding long outages. Workers have been reminded to use safety equipment at all times while working on live power lines. Senior officers, including Mahendra Kumar from South Bihar Power Distribution Company and Rahul Kumar from North Bihar Power Distribution Company, shared details of the preparations being made across different districts.
However, along with these improvements, people may also see a rise in their electricity bills in the future. Both distribution companies have submitted new tariff proposals to the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission. If approved, the new rates could come into effect from April 1. While the government says these steps are needed to improve services, many consumers will be watching closely to see how the balance between better supply and higher costs is managed.
