Munger/Patna: The Bihar government has unveiled new boating facilities at Kharagpur Lake in Munger district, marking a fresh push to position the area as a tourism destination while linking development with employment generation and economic growth.
Inaugurating the facilities, deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary said the development of Kharagpur Lake — an area known for its natural springs, forests and biodiversity — would give Munger a new identity on the tourism map and create large-scale job opportunities. He said the NDA government in Bihar, led by chief minister Nitish Kumar, was working “continuously and systematically” to promote such integrated development.

Choudhary arrived in Haveli Kharagpur, where he also inaugurated expanded medical services at the sub-divisional hospital and reviewed ongoing development work around the lake. He described the launch of services at the 100-bed hospital as a major step for the region, saying the facility was now equipped with modern medical equipment and supported by an adequate number of doctors and healthcare workers.
The deputy chief minister also inaugurated beautification works around Kharagpur Lake and held a review meeting with senior officials from multiple departments, including forest, environment and climate change, water resources, public health engineering, road construction, tourism, rural development and health. Officials were directed to ensure coordinated planning for the lake’s long-term development.

As part of the visit, Choudhary laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects in five primary vegetable producer cooperative societies in Tarapur, Asarganj, Sangrampur, Tetia Bambhar and Haveli Kharagpur. The projects are being implemented under the Bihar State Vegetable Processing and Marketing Cooperative Scheme, which aims to strengthen market access for farmers and raise farm incomes.
The deputy chief minister said the combined focus on health, tourism and agriculture would provide new momentum to Munger district and help bring tangible improvements to the lives of local residents, particularly in rural areas.
