Patna: The Bihar government has decided to introduce skill development training at the school level to make students ready for future jobs and career opportunities. A large-scale action plan is being prepared to start skill-based activities and career counselling in all 9,360 higher secondary schools across the state. The main aim is to ensure that students gain practical, job-oriented skills along with their regular academic studies.
This initiative has been taken by the Labour Resources Department. Officials confirmed that training for students will soon begin in every government higher secondary school. On Friday, Deepak Anand, Secretary of the Labour Resources Department and Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar Skill Development Mission, sent an important proposal to Dr B. Rajendra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, seeking approval and coordination for the programme.
The proposal highlights that skill development in secondary classes should be given top priority to make the youth of Bihar employment-oriented. The Labour Resources Department has requested space in every school to organise activities related to skill development. According to Deepak Anand, this programme shows the government’s serious commitment towards combining education with practical skill learning in order to prepare students for the competitive job market.
The Bihar Skill Development Mission is already running several training programmes to make young people self-reliant and capable of getting jobs. Under the school-level plan, students will receive psychometric assessments, career counselling, soft skills lessons and industry-based training. These activities will help students understand their strengths, interests and career paths more clearly, encouraging better decision-making from an early age.
The Education Department has been asked to provide one or two classrooms — with a minimum area of 500 square feet — in each school for smooth implementation of the programme. These spaces will be used for workshops, competitions, finishing school activities and hands-on skill sessions. Officials believe that this joint effort between the two departments will help students identify opportunities early, develop confidence and become better prepared for jobs in the future.
If the plan is implemented effectively, it is expected to play an important role in shaping a skilled and confident generation across Bihar. Students will not only develop job-ready abilities but will also be better informed while choosing their future careers, making the initiative a valuable step towards improving youth employment.
