Patna: The Bihar government has upgraded the security of six prominent political figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, ahead of the state elections.
Chaudhary will now receive Z+ protection with Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) cover — a protocol in which central security forces are supported by local agencies. ASL entails round-the-clock surveillance, bulletproof vehicles, safe houses, CCTV monitoring, sensors, and specially trained security officers.
The move follows a death threat to Chaudhary on July 26, when an unknown sender messaged one of his aides via WhatsApp, stating: “Hello sir, I will shoot Samrat Chaudhary within 24 hours, I am speaking the truth.” The deputy chief minister dismissed the intimidation, saying: “Let whoever wants to threaten, do so.”
Tejashwi Yadav’s security detail has also been strengthened from Y-plus to Z category. Purnea MP and independent leader Pappu Yadav has been granted Y-plus cover, citing repeated threats to his life from both the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and local criminal groups. Yadav had earlier appealed to the Union government for enhanced protection.
Security upgrades have also been approved for JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar, BJP MLA Gyanendra Singh Gyanu, and MP Pradeep Kumar Singh.
