Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Monday transferred Rs 1,157.72 crore through direct benefit transfer (DBT) to the bank accounts of 1,01,33,000 social security pension beneficiaries, with each beneficiary receiving Rs 1,100.
The transfer was made at an event held at the Sankalp hall of the Chief Minister’s residence on the occasion of Pension Diwas. Social security pension beneficiaries, district magistrates and other officials joined the programme through video conferencing from across the state.
Pension Increased From Rs 400 To Rs 1,100
Addressing the gathering, Chaudhary said the pension amount for social security beneficiaries had been increased from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100.
He said the government had put in place a system under which pension payments are transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on the 10th of every month, describing it as a technology-driven mechanism aimed at ensuring transparent and accountable delivery of welfare benefits.
The chief minister said the government was prioritising the dignity and social security of elderly people, persons with disabilities, poor families and other vulnerable sections.
He directed district magistrates to ensure that no eligible beneficiary was left out of the pension scheme and that payments were made on time and through a transparent process.
Rs 23,000 Crore Subsidy For Free Electricity
Chaudhary also said the increase in pension had brought positive changes to the lives of beneficiaries.
He said 1.70 crore families in Bihar were being provided with up to 125 units of free electricity, with the state government spending Rs 23,000 crore on the subsidy.
The government, he said, remained committed to providing social security to poor, disadvantaged and needy sections of society.

Social Security Scheme Highlighted At Event
Dr Preeti, Director of Social Security, welcomed the chief minister by presenting him with a green sapling. A short film on the social security pension scheme was also screened during the programme.
Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Social Welfare Minister Shweta Gupta, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Additional Chief Secretary of the Social Welfare Department H.R. Srinivasa, Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Kumar Singh and Director of Social Security Dr Preeti were among those present.
District magistrates, beneficiaries and other dignitaries from across Bihar participated in the event through video conferencing.
