Vaishali: The Bihar government has intensified efforts to improve power infrastructure in Vaishali district, with senior officials reviewing progress at the under-construction Mahua grid sub-station. On Tuesday, energy department secretary and chairman-cum-managing director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Manoj Kumar Singh, visited the 132/33 KV Mahua grid site and inspected ongoing work. During the visit, he instructed officials and contractors to speed up construction so that the project is completed on time, stressing that reliable electricity is essential for both daily life and local development.
Singh was joined by Rahul Kumar, managing director of Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited, along with other senior officials. The team reviewed the pace and quality of work not only at the Mahua site but also related infrastructure connected to the project. The plan includes the construction of transmission lines linked to the grid and the development of two 132 KV line bays at the 220/132/33 KV grid sub-station in Tajpur. Officials said these components are vital to ensure smooth transmission and distribution of electricity once the grid becomes operational.
The Mahua grid sub-station project was announced by chief minister Nitish Kumar during his Pragati Yatra on 6 January 2025, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening electricity supply in rural and semi-urban areas. The project was formally awarded on 15 May 2025, with an estimated cost of Rs 126.78 crore. According to officials, several early-stage tasks have already been completed, including soil testing and contour surveys. Work on the approach road has started, detailed surveys of both transmission lines are finished, and civil construction is currently underway at the Tajpur grid sub-station. The overall target is to complete the project within 18 months.
Once completed, the Mahua grid sub-station is expected to significantly improve power supply across large parts of Vaishali district. Areas such as Mahua, Piroi, Chehrakala, Dabhechha, Patepur, Rajapakar, Gauraul, Mirjanagar, Maudahchatur and Chatwara will benefit from a more stable and uninterrupted electricity supply. Officials believe the project will reduce power cuts, support small businesses, improve public services and make everyday life easier for thousands of residents, marking another step in Bihar’s push towards better and more reliable power infrastructure.
