Jamui: Bihar’s Sports Minister and Olympian Shreyasi Singh has announced plans to establish sports academies in every district, aiming to provide structured training and develop future athletes capable of representing both the state and India.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday during a brief stop at the Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (LJP-R) office in Sheikhpura while traveling from Patna to Jamui, Singh outlined the government’s vision to promote sports at the grassroots level.
“Our endeavour is to open academies for Olympic sports in every district,” Singh said, noting that extensive research is underway to guide the initiative.

During her visit, Singh was welcomed by Sheikhpura district president Imam Ghazali and other party members. Local concerns were raised, including the lack of a playground for young athletes practising running in Ekadha village, Chewada. The Minister assured reporters that she would personally inspect the site during a future visit and take steps to develop the necessary facilities.
The initiative forms part of a broader plan to enhance sports infrastructure at the Panchayat level. District-wise assessments will identify talent across different sports, and academies will employ trained coaches to nurture young athletes.
Singh, an international shooter herself, emphasised that the academies aim to ensure Bihar’s athletes are well-prepared to compete in national and international sporting events, raising the state’s profile in the sports arena.
