Patna: The Bihar cabinet has approved the acquisition of land belonging to the agriculture department’s seed farms located within urban areas, as part of its plan to develop new satellite townships across the state.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Samrat Choudhary.
22 Farms Identified In First Phase
Officials said land from 22 State Seed Multiplication Farms has been identified for acquisition in the initial phase, out of a total of 239 such farms in Bihar.
These farms, currently used for research and seed production, now fall within the limits of expanding urban local bodies.
Impact Of Rapid Urbanisation
Authorities said rapid urban expansion has brought several agriculture department properties into city centres, making them suitable for redevelopment.
The move is linked to the government’s plan to build 11 new greenfield satellite townships aimed at easing pressure on existing cities and promoting planned urban growth.
Land Swap For Agriculture Department
Officials clarified that the agriculture department will be provided alternative land in rural areas in exchange for the acquired properties.
This is intended to ensure continuity of research and seed production activities without disruption.
Push For Planned Development
The government said the decision is part of a broader strategy to support urban expansion, improve infrastructure and create new economic hubs.
Officials added that the township projects are expected to generate employment and attract investment while enabling more structured development in growing urban centres.
