Patna: In a move aimed at reducing the backlog of pending traffic challans, the Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA) has directed that all compoundable traffic challans in the state be disposed of through Permanent Lok Adalats.
The directive was issued on July 8 through a letter signed by Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Member Secretary of the Bihar State Legal Services Authority, and circulated to all District Legal Services Authorities across the state.
The order follows a direction from the Patna High Court, which called for an effective mechanism to ensure the speedy disposal of the large number of pending traffic challan cases.
Under the new arrangement, District Legal Services Authorities have been instructed to coordinate with the District Transport Office (DTO), Traffic Police, and other concerned departments to facilitate the prompt settlement of compoundable traffic violations through Permanent Lok Adalats.
The BSLSA has also directed district authorities to immediately inform the state authority if they encounter any difficulties while implementing the order.
As part of the initiative, a public notice informing citizens about the new mechanism has been displayed at the Permanent Lok Adalat located within the Patna Civil Court premises.
The Permanent Lok Adalat at Patna Civil Court is currently functioning under a three-member bench comprising Chairperson Satyendra Kumar Pandey and members Reshma Prasad and Sanjay Kumar Shukla.
The new system is expected to streamline the resolution of compoundable traffic challans, reduce the burden on courts, and provide motorists with a faster and more accessible mechanism for settling eligible traffic violation cases.
