Patna: Bihar’s Transport Department held a state-level review meeting on Friday at the Convention Hall, Patna, with Transport Minister Shrawon Kumar presiding over discussions on public welfare initiatives, departmental achievements, and revenue generation.
The meeting brought together senior officials, including all RTA secretaries, District Transport Officers (DTOs), Additional DTOs, and the Executive Secretary of Infrastructure (ESI). Minister Kumar emphasised the timely implementation of schemes, calling for concerted efforts to ensure public services meet citizens’ expectations.

“The state is rapidly progressing on the path of development, and the Transport Department plays a pivotal role in this growth,” Kumar said. He highlighted the department’s dual role in providing public utilities and generating revenue, noting that increased funds could be channelled into other areas of state development.
The meeting reviewed key initiatives such as vehicle fitness inspections, the rollout of HSRP number plates, and GPS systems. The minister directed officials to expedite these measures, stressing that they are crucial for road safety and traffic management.
Attention was also drawn to Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) bus stands. Kumar instructed that basic amenities, cleanliness, and passenger facilities be prioritised, describing bus stands as the “identity of the department” for travellers. He also called for new bus services on public-private partnership (PPP) routes and special services to major tourist destinations to enhance connectivity.

Transport Secretary Raj Kumar urged that department offices adopt a citizen-friendly approach. He instructed officials to promptly address public concerns and ensure no pending work remains at the district or divisional levels. “Officials will be evaluated based on performance, and transfers will reflect accountability and efficiency,” he added.
Other attendees included BSRTC Administrator Atul Verma, Additional Secretary Praveen Kumar, Joint Secretary Krityanand Ranjan, Deputy Secretary Aruna Kumari, and other departmental officials.
