Patna: Hundreds of candidates for Bihar’s fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) took to the streets on Tuesday, demanding an increase in the number of teaching positions. Around 3,000 protesters marched from Patna College towards the Chief Minister’s residence, passing through Khetan Market, Bakarganj, Gandhi Maidan, JP Golambar, and Dak Bungalow Square, with police deployed at key points to maintain order.
The protesters are calling on the state government to issue a notification for recruitment to 1.2 lakh posts before September 15, in contrast to the 26,910 posts currently announced by the Education Minister. Candidates say the reduction contradicts earlier assurances that over 1 lakh positions would be filled in the fourth phase of recruitment.
Student leader Dilip accused the government of misleading Bihar’s youth, suggesting that earlier figures were inflated to allow candidates from outside the state to benefit. “The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister themselves announced recruitment for 1.2 lakh posts several times. Conducting an examination for only 27,000 positions is a betrayal of Bihar’s youth,” he said.
Education Minister Sunil Kumar defended the decision, stating that the government plans to fill more than 26,000 posts in the fourth phase. He also announced that the TRE-4 examination will take place from December 16 to 19, with results expected between January 20 and 26,2026. He assured that the recruitment process would be transparent and conducted in a timely manner.
