Patna: Bihar’s Education Minister, Sunil Kumar, announced on Monday that the state will recruit more than 26,000 teachers as part of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4). Speaking at a press conference in Patna, he said the vacancies would be forwarded to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) within four to five days. Any positions left unfilled after this phase will be carried over to TRE-5.
The minister also confirmed that the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) will conduct the State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2025. Online applications will be accepted from September 19 to 27, with the examination scheduled between October 12 and 31. Results are expected on November 16.
Kumar addressed ongoing demands from candidates for a higher number of vacancies, emphasising that posts are allocated based on subject-wise requirements and student enrolment across schools. “The 26,000 seats are adequate,” he said, noting that the roster clearance process for two to three districts is still underway before vacancies are formally sent to the BPSC.
Despite the minister’s reassurances, candidates have remained steadfast in their demand for 1.2 lakh posts. On September 19, hundreds of TRE-4 aspirants staged a protest march from Patna College towards the Chief Minister’s residence, but were stopped by police at JP Golambar. Many continued their demonstration in heavy rain for three hours, chanting slogans against the government.
A delegation, led by student leader Dilip, met with the Principal Secretary of the Education Department, after which the protest ended. Candidates expressed frustration over repeated delays and unfulfilled government promises, highlighting the limited career opportunities in the state’s public sector and the scale of unemployment among eligible candidates. Earlier, on September 9, police had reportedly used batons against protesting candidates outside the Chief Minister’s residence, leaving several injured.
