Patna: Universities and affiliated colleges across Bihar have been placed under tighter academic scrutiny after the state’s governor and chancellor, Arif Mohammad Khan, ordered vice-chancellors to make daily teaching details publicly available on their websites.
Under the directive issued on Monday, universities must upload, on the same day, information on the number of classes conducted by each professor, the subjects taught, and the name of the faculty member handling the class. The system is intended to show, in clear terms, how much of the syllabus has been covered on any given day.
The order makes university authorities directly accountable for compliance. Any negligence in uploading accurate and timely information will invite disciplinary action against the officials concerned, the directive said.
Beyond daily class disclosures, vice-chancellors have been instructed to ensure that academic schedules, faculty-wise class timetables and annual examination calendars are prominently displayed on university websites and updated regularly. The aim, officials said, is to bring greater transparency and predictability to campus academic life.
The directive has been sent to vice-chancellors of Patna University, Patliputra University, Veer Kunwar Singh University, Magadh University, and Jai Prakash University.
It also applies to B. R. A. Bihar University, Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, B. N. Mandal University, Purnea University, Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Munger University, and Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University.
Education officials believe the move could benefit students by ensuring that classes are held regularly and that syllabus coverage is closely tracked. By forcing public disclosure of teaching activity, the chancellor’s office hopes to raise academic standards and curb long-standing complaints about irregular classes and poor monitoring in the state’s higher education institutions.
