PATNA: The Bihar Urban Development and Housing Department is set to engage a professional communications consultancy to improve the reach and visibility of government schemes, projects and decisions among the public.
The department has initiated the process of selecting an agency for integrated media and communications support. The selected consultancy will be responsible for developing communication strategies, strengthening public relations and improving engagement with citizens.
Agency to develop communication and media strategies
According to the department, the consultancy will provide strategic advice on communicating information about various urban development schemes, projects and government initiatives to the public in a clear and effective manner.
The agency will use multiple media and communication platforms to increase awareness about government programmes and highlight the department’s work.
Its responsibilities will include developing communication strategies, advising on media engagement and improving the overall public presentation of the department’s initiatives.
Digital platforms to be assessed in first six months
The selected agency will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the department’s existing digital platforms during the first six months. Based on the assessment, it will prepare a report outlining the department’s digital communication landscape and areas requiring improvement.
A dedicated content team will also be established to manage communication activities. The agency will prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain a 30-day advance content calendar to ensure systematic dissemination of information.
The consultancy will also review the department’s website and recommend changes wherever necessary. A WhatsApp-based communication system is also planned as part of the department’s efforts to strengthen direct public outreach.
Websites, social media and podcasts to be key focus
During the first year, the department’s communication strategy will primarily focus on websites, digital media, social media platforms and podcasts.
The scope of the agency’s work is expected to expand in the second year, covering additional communication and outreach activities.
The broader objective of the initiative is to ensure that information about urban development schemes and government programmes reaches the maximum possible number of people, while making the department’s communication more accessible and effective.
