Patna: The weather across Bihar continues to seesaw, with bright afternoons offering mild warmth while cold conditions linger after sunset and before sunrise. The Meteorological Department has said the influence of cold westerly winds is likely to persist for the next three days, keeping temperatures unstable across the state.
According to forecasts, the intensity of these westerly winds could increase, leading to a further fall of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in both maximum and minimum temperatures in many districts. While daytime sunshine is expected to provide temporary relief, the overall chill is unlikely to ease immediately.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for dense fog in eight northern districts over the next 24 hours. East and West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj are likely to see reduced visibility, particularly during early mornings and late nights.
In Patna and nearby areas, wind speeds may reach up to 40 km per hour, intensifying the cold during mornings and evenings. Meteorologists have predicted a drop of up to three degrees Celsius in daytime temperatures across several parts of the state over the next one to two days, which could make the cold feel sharper despite clear skies.
No significant change was recorded in Patna’s temperature on Thursday, with conditions remaining similar to previous days: cold mornings, relatively pleasant afternoons, and chilly evenings. The weather is expected to remain dry statewide due to the continued influence of westerly winds.
Climate experts say north India, including Bihar, is currently passing through a seasonal transition. While February often signals the gradual retreat of winter, cold conditions do not disappear abruptly. The lingering effects of western disturbances and the jet stream are still shaping weather patterns, leading to ongoing temperature fluctuations.
Meteorologists expect the cold to ease slowly rather than end suddenly, with temperatures rising gradually as the month progresses.
