Patna: Bihar is expected to witness a significant shift in weather conditions over the coming days, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across several districts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently active over South Bihar and adjoining areas in the lower tropospheric levels.
In addition, a north-south trough extending from South Bihar to the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh region has further intensified the likelihood of widespread weather activity.
Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Issued
The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the districts of:
- Gaya
- Samastipur
- Darbhanga
- Madhubani
- Saharsa
- Supaul
- Purnia
- Araria
- Madhepura
- Kishanganj
- Katihar
- Vaishali
- East Champaran
- West Champaran
- Bhojpur
Officials said wind speeds during this period could reach up to 60 km/h in several areas.
Storm Activity Likely to Intensify Between May 26 and May 29
According to the forecast, weather conditions are expected to deteriorate further between May 26 and May 29.
During this period, Bihar is likely to experience:
- Thunderstorms and lightning
- Strong winds of 50–60 km/h
- Gusts potentially reaching 70 km/h
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during periods of intense weather activity.
Patna Temperature Expected at 37°C
In Patna, the maximum temperature on May 26 is expected to remain around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle near 26 degrees Celsius.
Despite the ongoing heat, meteorologists said the approaching rainfall system could gradually bring relief to residents.
Relief From Heat Likely Later This Week
The Meteorological Department stated that no major change in maximum temperatures is expected until May 27.
However, between May 28 and May 31, temperatures across Bihar are likely to decline gradually by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Officials said the expected fall in temperatures could provide significant relief from the scorching heat conditions that have affected large parts of the state in recent weeks.
