Patna: The brief lull in Bihar’s monsoon is expected to end, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a fresh spell of widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across the state over the coming days.
According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre, Patna, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 1°C to 3°C over the next 24 hours before falling again as monsoon activity intensifies.
Temperatures To Rise Before Rain Returns
The IMD said there was little change in temperatures across Bihar over the past day.
Motihari in East Champaran recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 37.2°C, while Valmikinagar in West Champaran recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 26.0°C.
Across Bihar, maximum temperatures ranged between 32.9°C and 37.2°C, while minimum temperatures remained between 26.0°C and 30.9°C.
The department expects maximum temperatures to increase slightly on July 27, followed by a decline as rainfall activity strengthens.
Depression Over Bay Of Bengal To Boost Monsoon
Meteorologists said the low-pressure area over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coast had intensified into a depression and was expected to strengthen further into a deep depression while moving northwestwards.
Combined with the active monsoon trough and associated cyclonic circulation, the system is expected to significantly enhance rainfall across Bihar.
The IMD has warned that thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall are likely in several districts over the next few days.
Only Isolated Rainfall Recorded
Rainfall remained limited across Bihar during the past 24 hours.
According to the IMD, Jehanabad recorded the highest rainfall at 4.5 mm, followed by Sheikhpura (3.0 mm), Barh (2.2 mm) and Vaishali (0.2 mm).
Light rainfall was reported only at isolated locations in Jehanabad, Sheikhpura, Patna and Vaishali districts.
What To Expect On July 27
The weather office said residents can expect:
- A 1°C to 3°C rise in daytime temperatures over the next 24 hours.
- No significant change in minimum temperatures over the next five days.
- Increasing monsoon activity after July 27.
- A higher likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall in many parts of Bihar as the depression advances.
