Patna: A cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar and adjoining regions is likely to keep weather conditions dry across the state in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Meteorological Centre in Patna has forecast a rise in maximum temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in many parts of Bihar over the next three to four days. Heatwave-like conditions are expected to intensify, particularly on April 18 and 19, prompting a yellow alert for several districts.
The districts likely to be affected include Gaya, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada, Jehanabad, Arwal, Buxar, and Bhojpur, where maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, Arwal recorded strong winds with speeds reaching 44 kmph. Patna and nearby areas experienced dry weather conditions accompanied by gusty winds.
Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.4 degrees Celsius. Dehri was the hottest place in the state at 39.2 degrees Celsius. A rise in maximum temperatures was observed across several parts of Bihar, including the capital.
According to IMD data, Patna’s minimum temperature recorded on Monday was among the highest for this season and also marked a notable high compared to the past 15 years.
Meanwhile, light rainfall is expected at one or two places in districts such as Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar on April 17. Other parts of the state are likely to experience largely stable weather conditions, with some fluctuations in temperature.
Temperature readings in key cities on Monday were as follows: Patna recorded 37.3°C (max) and 24.4°C (min), Gaya 38.0°C and 21.2°C, Bhagalpur 34.7°C and 21.9°C, and Muzaffarpur 34.4°C and 23.0°C. Gaya was the hottest among the major cities at 38.0°C.
