Patna: The familiar post-Diwali chill that marks the arrival of winter in Bihar is missing this year, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting an unseasonably warm November. According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, both maximum and minimum temperatures across the state are expected to remain above normal, with no significant rainfall on the horizon.
“Maximum and minimum temperatures in Bihar are predicted to be above normal in November. Severe cold is not expected at this time. The weather will remain dry, and this will further increase the mercury,” the IMD stated in its latest forecast.
Meteorologists said that while November typically brings cooler mornings and light fog, this year’s weather will be dominated by clear skies, bright sunshine, and dry winds. The absence of western disturbances—weather systems that usually bring cold winds to northern India—means there will be little relief from the heat until mid-December.

The IMD has projected that daytime temperatures could rise by two to six degrees Celsius over the next three days, making it an unusually hot start to November. Sheikhpura recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6°C on Sunday, several degrees above the seasonal average.
Cyclone Montha briefly brought showers and a dip in temperatures last week, but its effects have now faded. Only a few districts, including Jamui, Gaya, and Madhubani, saw scattered rain on Sunday before the sunshine returned.
Meteorologists expect light fog and minimal drizzle in mid-November, mostly in Bihar’s eastern and southern regions. However, they say the real winter chill will arrive only in December, when temperatures in cities such as Patna, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga could fall to around 8°C.
For now, Bihar’s November will remain sunny, dry, and warmer than usual—a relief for farmers drying their fields after heavy rains, but an unusual wait for those longing for winter’s familiar chill.
