Patna: Winter has arrived in full force across Bihar, with the early mornings and evenings turning sharply cold while the daytime sunshine offers only fleeting relief. Meteorologists predict a further dip in temperatures, with the mercury likely to fall below 10°C in the final week of November and early December.
According to the Bihar Mausam Seva Kendra, the activation of western disturbances and the influx of cold westerly winds have intensified the chill across the state. Night temperatures have been hovering between 11°C and 12°C for several days, while daytime highs remain around 26–30°C. On Wednesday, Aurangabad recorded the lowest temperature at 11.9°C, with residents reporting sleepless nights due to the biting cold.
Weather experts warn that the combination of cold air and rising humidity levels could trigger dense fog and haze, reducing visibility and exacerbating pollution in urban areas. “The last week of November will see temperatures dip further as cold winds strengthen. Increased moisture will result in foggy mornings and hazy afternoons,” a Met official said.
The chill is being felt more intensely in South Bihar, particularly in Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, and Jamui, where the geographical terrain and wind patterns amplify the cold. In contrast, northern districts like Motihari experienced slightly warmer conditions, with the day’s high reaching 31°C.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions against the cold and pollution. The elderly, children, and those with respiratory conditions have been advised to stay indoors during foggy hours and wear warm clothing.
