Patna: Bihar will transfer Rs 10,000 each to 10 lakh women on Friday as part of the state’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana 2025, the first instalment to be released after the recent assembly elections. Chief minister Nitish Kumar is expected to oversee the direct benefit transfer (DBT), which forms part of a wider livelihood-support programme that has already reached 1.4 crore women across the state.
Shravan Kumar, Bihar’s rural development minister, said the government aims to complete payments to all eligible beneficiaries by 14 December. “All eligible Jeevika Didis will receive the scheme’s benefits in phases up to 14 December,” he said, adding that the transfers will be carried out via DBT to ensure transparency.
Of the 10 lakh women due to receive the latest instalment on 28 November, about 9.5 lakh are from rural Jeevika self-help groups, while 50,000 beneficiaries are from urban areas. The state had earlier scheduled instalment transfers for 17 October, 24 October, 31 October, 7 November, 14 November, 21 November, 28 November and 5 December.
Officials say the scheme is aimed at supporting women’s employment and income generation, with the current tranche classified as a government grant. After a six-month assessment of utilisation and progress, the Nitish Kumar government plans to offer an additional support package of Rs 2 lakh to eligible women.
