Patna: Construction activity at the proposed international airport in Bihta, near Patna, has intensified, with work on the apron progressing rapidly.
The apron is the section of an airport where aircraft are parked and serviced, including passenger boarding, unloading and technical operations. Officials said the apron is being designed to accommodate larger aircraft in the future while meeting required safety standards.
The boundary wall for the project has already been completed across nearly 108 acres.
Taxiway development also in progress
Alongside apron construction, work on the taxiway is also underway. According to officials, part of the taxiway will be developed within the area controlled by the Indian Air Force, while the remaining section will connect the apron to the runway.
Authorities said the project requires close coordination between the Air Force and the civil aviation department during execution.
Project aimed at easing load on Patna airport
Officials said the new airport is expected to reduce passenger pressure on Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna and improve air connectivity across the region.
The project is also being seen as a potential boost for investment and economic activity in and around Patna.
First phase to cover 460 acres
According to project details, the first phase of development will cover around 460 acres and include:
- Terminal building

- Apron facilities
The total estimated cost of the airport project is around Rs. 1,453 crore.
