Patna: The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Patna opened its three-day annual athletics meet on Friday, transforming the campus into a hub of colour, energy and competition as students gathered for one of the institute’s biggest sporting events of the year.
The meet was inaugurated by the institute’s director, D.K. Mallik, in the presence of senior faculty members including Dr Anish, Dr S.S. Yadav and representatives of the sports committee. The ceremony began with the release of balloons into the sky, followed by a disciplined march-past by participating students, signalling the formal start of the competitions and highlighting teamwork and coordination.
A series of track-and-field events marked the first day of the meet. Students competed in the 100-metre sprint for both boys and girls, along with triple jump, shot put and other athletics contests. Spectators cheered from the sidelines as athletes delivered strong performances, setting an enthusiastic tone for the days ahead.
Addressing the gathering, Mallik emphasised the role of sport in shaping students beyond academics. He said games and physical activity contribute not only to fitness but also help build discipline, leadership qualities and self-confidence. He urged participants to compete with integrity and uphold the spirit of fair play.
With active involvement from students, teachers and staff, the campus remained lively throughout the day. Organisers said more events are scheduled over the next two days, with expectations of greater participation and closer contests as the annual meet continues to foster a culture of healthy competition and unity at the institute.
