Patna: Patna witnessed widespread disruption on Thursday as members of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha staged demonstrations in protest against alleged derogatory remarks made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother during the Voter Adhikar Yatra.
The party, which called a statewide bandh over the issue, saw hundreds of women workers gather under the leadership of Mahila Morcha state president Dharmashila Gupta. The march began early in the morning at Income Tax Golambar and moved towards Dakbungla crossing, where protesters raised slogans and displayed posters condemning the remarks. Senior BJP leaders also joined the demonstration.
Shops across the city remained closed, and traffic was severely affected, with major intersections witnessing blockades. Commuters heading to offices and schools faced delays, while some educational institutions announced closures in anticipation of unrest. Emergency services, including ambulances and fire brigades, continued to operate.
BJP leaders described the comments against Modi’s mother as an “insult to Indian culture and motherhood”, vowing to intensify their agitation until a formal apology is issued. They have framed the protest as a “fight for mother’s honour”.
