Arrah: A helicopter carrying senior BJP leader and former MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh was forced to make an emergency landing in a paddy field on Thursday evening after bad weather struck shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred near Tirojpur Chimni Bhatta in the Gajrajganj OP area of Bhojpur district.
Singh, a prominent BJP figure from Uttar Pradesh, had been campaigning in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. He had just addressed a rally in support of NDA candidate Radha Charan Shah from the Sandesh constituency at Chhotki Sasaram ground in the Udwantnagar block and was en route to Dinara in neighbouring Rohtas district when the incident occurred.
According to reports, the weather began to deteriorate around five to seven minutes after takeoff, reducing visibility. Acting swiftly, the pilot made the decision to bring the helicopter down safely in a nearby paddy field to avoid any mishap.
Villagers from the area rushed to the site upon noticing the aircraft’s descent. Police and NDA workers also arrived soon after. Singh was subsequently escorted to his next destination by road.
Local residents praised the pilot’s composure and precision during the landing, noting that the manoeuvre prevented any injuries or damage.
Station House Officer Chandan Kumar Mahatha confirmed that the emergency landing was prompted by poor weather conditions. “There were no injuries. The former MP has proceeded by road, and the helicopter is under watch,” Mahatha said.
