Patna: The Digha-Kankarbagh Integrated Wastewater Project, implemented by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO), has received the “Global Water Award” at the Global Water Summit 2026 held in Spain.
The project was awarded in the ‘Wastewater Project of the Year’ category during the summit organised on May 19. Representatives from several countries participated in the event, where projects from across the world were evaluated for innovation, sustainability and social impact in the water sector.
The award is presented annually by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), which has been conferring the honours since 2006. The awards are regarded as a major international benchmark in the global water and wastewater management sector.
Recognition for Urban Water Management
According to officials, the Digha-Kankarbagh project was selected from among multiple international nominations submitted for the 2026 edition of the awards.
Animesh Kumar Parashar, Managing Director of BUIDCO, said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of the organisation, the Namami Gange mission and associated partner agencies.
“This honour is the result of the collective hard work and dedication of the BUIDCO family, the Namami Gange mission, and all partner agencies,” he said in an official statement.
He added that the recognition would motivate the agency to continue improving urban water management systems in Bihar and strengthen accountability for future projects.
Bihar’s Growing Presence in Infrastructure Development

The project is being viewed as a significant milestone for the state’s efforts to improve wastewater treatment capacity and urban environmental management under ongoing infrastructure initiatives.
