Patna: On the third day of Chhath Mahaparva, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar offered prayers to the setting sun at his official residence on Ek Aane Marg in Patna on Monday. The Chief Minister, who usually visits the Ganga Ghats during the festival, refrained from doing so this year due to the enforcement of the election code of conduct.
Earlier in the day, CM Nitish took to Instagram to extend greetings on the four-day festival, which celebrates devotion, self-discipline, and gratitude to the Sun God. “Congratulations and best wishes to the people of the state and the country on the occasion of the grand festival of folk faith, Chhath,” he wrote. “This festival symbolises purity of mind and self-restraint. On this occasion, we pray to Lord Bhaskar for the progress, happiness, peace, and prosperity of the state.”

Although the Chief Minister did not visit the ghats this time, he had personally inspected arrangements at several sites along the Ganges before Diwali, directing officials to ensure safety and cleanliness. Traditionally, Kumar visits the Ganga Ghats on the evening of Arghya, interacting with devotees and local residents.
The four-day Chhath rituals began on Saturday with Nahay-Khaay, followed by Kharna on Sunday. Devotees observed a 36-hour waterless fast that culminated with offerings to the setting sun on Monday evening. The festival will conclude on Tuesday morning when devotees offer Arghya to the rising sun, marking the end of their fast.
Across Patna, special arrangements were made for the festival. According to district officials, nearly 550 ghats along the Ganges and its tributaries were prepared for devotees, alongside 45 parks and 63 ponds within the Patna Municipal Corporation area. Authorities ensured the provision of civic amenities such as lighting, barricading, and security under the supervision of subdivisional officers and police personnel.
