Patna: Commuters and commercial vehicle operators in Patna are facing higher fuel expenses after a fresh increase in CNG prices came into effect across the city on Thursday.
The revised rates, announced by GAIL (India) Limited, show an increase of Rs 2 per kilogram, taking the retail price of CNG to Rs 92.90 per kg at several filling stations in the state capital.
Price Revision Comes into Effect
According to fuel pump operators, the new pricing structure has been implemented immediately. The revision has been attributed to increased supply and operational costs, as per initial inputs from the supply side.
The change marks another upward adjustment in CNG prices in recent months, adding to cost pressures for transport operators.
Impact on Public Transport
The price hike is expected to directly affect auto-rickshaws, taxis and private vehicle owners who rely on CNG for daily mobility in Patna.
Drivers and vehicle operators have expressed concern over shrinking earnings due to rising fuel expenses. Auto-rickshaw drivers, in particular, said the continuous increase in fuel costs is affecting their daily income stability.
Environmental Context and Public Concern
CNG is widely used in Patna as a comparatively cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel, particularly in public transport. However, the repeated price revisions have led to growing concern among commuters who depend on affordable transport options.
Transport operators have indicated that further increases could lead to pressure for fare revisions, although no formal changes have been announced yet.
