Patna: The growing shift towards electric vehicles is becoming increasingly visible in Patna, where rising petrol and diesel prices, government incentives and expanding consumer awareness are pushing demand for EVs across multiple segments.
Dealers in the state capital said demand for electric cars and scooters has risen sharply in recent months, leading to waiting lists of 80 to 100 vehicles at several showrooms.
According to industry representatives, nearly 40 to 50 electric four-wheelers and 60 to 70 electric two-wheelers are currently being sold daily in the city.
Preference for Long-Range Electric Cars
Dealers said buyers are increasingly prioritising vehicles capable of travelling longer distances on a single charge. Models offering a driving range between 400 and 600 kilometres are witnessing the strongest demand.
Electric vehicles currently available in the market are priced between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 32 lakh, depending on battery capacity and features.
Dealers stated that some premium variants can travel close to 600 kilometres on a full charge and can be charged within 40 to 80 minutes using fast-charging systems.
They added that around 10 to 15 serious inquiries are being received daily for long-range electric cars, while multiple bookings remain pending because of supply constraints.
Showroom representatives also said vehicles equipped with 61 kW batteries are capable of offering a driving range of nearly 540 kilometres, while variants with 49 kW batteries can cover approximately 450 kilometres.
Rising Interest Among Young Buyers and Professionals
Dealerships reported that young buyers, working professionals and women are emerging as key customer groups in the city’s EV market.
Industry representatives attributed the growth to several factors, including lower maintenance costs, rising environmental awareness and government-backed subsidy schemes.
Several companies are also offering financing support, exchange benefits and complimentary charging facilities to attract customers.
Electric Scooter Sales Also Climb
The rise in demand is not limited to electric cars. Dealers said sales of electric scooters have also increased substantially over the past year.
According to showroom operators, dealerships that previously sold one or two electric scooters a day are now selling dozens daily.
They added that available stock is being exhausted quickly and existing inventory could sell out within two to three days if supply shortages continue.
Dealers believe consumers are increasingly viewing electric vehicles as a cost-effective long-term alternative to conventional fuel-powered transport.
With demand continuing to rise and supply struggling to keep pace, Patna’s electric vehicle market is expected to expand further in the coming months.
