Patna: The Patna district administration has initiated preparations for the construction of sports grounds in 186 panchayats as part of the second phase of a district-wide sports infrastructure development programme aimed at promoting sporting activities in rural areas.
Officials said the process of identifying suitable land for the proposed sports grounds has been expedited, and directives have been issued to the concerned departments for timely execution of the project.
Land Identification Process Accelerated
According to district sources, letters seeking land selection have been sent to all Circle Officers (COs) and Panchayat Programme Officers. The officials have been tasked with jointly identifying suitable plots and finalising the land for construction.
Sources said land has already been identified in nine panchayats under the second phase, and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) have also been secured. These include four panchayats in Barh block, one in Bihta block, and four other panchayats in the district.
The administration plans to complete the remaining land identification process in the coming weeks.
Construction to Begin from July 1
Officials said the construction work will begin from July 1 under the ‘Viksit Bharat-G Ram Ji’ scheme. Each sports ground will require nearly 50 decimal units of land.
Construction activities are expected to start first in the nine panchayats where land formalities have already been completed, while efforts to secure land in other areas are continuing.
Rs 10–17 Lakh Estimated Cost Per Ground
According to sources, the estimated expenditure for each sports ground is expected to range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, depending on the nature of the site and the facilities developed.
Workers engaged in the construction process will be paid under the revised provisions of the ‘Viksit Bharat-G Ram Ji’ scheme, officials added.
Facilities for Multiple Sports
The proposed sports grounds will include facilities for football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, kabaddi, and running tracks.
Officials said the initiative is intended to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure and provide improved access to sporting facilities for children and young athletes in rural areas.
123 Sports Grounds Completed in First Phase
Under the first phase of the programme, sports grounds have already been developed in 123 panchayats across Patna district.
Most of these grounds were constructed within school premises to ensure easy access for school-going children. The facilities include running tracks and infrastructure for football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and kabaddi.
