Gayaji: A tragic incident took place on Monday afternoon in Kazichak village near Gayaji city in Bihar. Three teenage boys from the same family drowned while bathing in a pond to escape the heat. The victims were identified as Irshad and Dilshad, sons of Mohd. Imtiaz, and their cousin Mohd. Fariyaad, son of Imtiaz’s younger brother Mohd. Aslam. All three boys were students of class 8 and died on the spot after going into deep water.
According to local people, the boys were returning home after studying at Kosdihra school when they decided to bathe in the pond near their village to cool down from the summer heat. There were four children in total who went into the water, but only one of them managed to come out safely. The other three drowned within minutes. As soon as the news spread in the village, hundreds of people gathered at the pond, and their families broke down in grief.
Mohd. Imtiaz works in a garage in Gayaji city, while his younger brother Mohd. Aslam drives a tempo for a living. Both families are very poor and have been left heartbroken by the sudden loss of their sons. Sarpanch Shailendra Singh said the accident was a huge tragedy for the entire village and demanded financial help from the government for the victim’s families. People in the village were seen consoling each other as a silence of sorrow spread all around.
After getting information about the incident, the police and SDRF team reached the spot. It took them around two hours to take out the bodies of all three boys from the pond. The bodies were then sent to Magadh Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. The local administration has started investigating the matter to understand how the accident happened and whether any safety measures can be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
