Varanasi/Patna: Police in Varanasi have arrested the son of the Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University along with two of his friends in connection with the murder of a teacher during a dispute over parking.
The victim, 54-year-old Praveen Kumar Jha, a teacher at Sunbeam School Bhagwanpur, lived with his family in Matri Chaya Apartment in Bhelupur. On Thursday night, he reportedly clashed with 27-year-old Adarsh Singh, the VC’s son, over parking space in the apartment’s basement. Witnesses allege that Adarsh, joined by two friends, attacked Praveen Kumar with a rod and brick, leaving him critically injured. Praveen Kumar was taken to the BHU Trauma Centre, where he was declared dead.
Police officials said Adarsh lived alone in a flat purchased by his father, Vice Chancellor Dr Duniya Ram Singh, while the family visited only occasionally. Residents of the apartment reported that Adarsh frequently quarrelled with neighbours over parking. Officers stated that the accused had invited his friends earlier in the evening, suggesting the attack was premeditated.
Adarsh, who was employed as a Chief Marketing Officer in an agricultural equipment company with an annual package of Rs 30 lakh, was described by neighbours as spoiled and addicted to alcohol. Liquor bottles and cigarette packets were recovered from his car.
According to investigators, Adarsh had been at odds with Praveen Kumar for nearly two years due to the limited parking in the 20-flat apartment complex. Following the altercation around 9:15 pm, Adarsh and his friends allegedly struck Praveen Kumar on the head, causing fatal injuries.
Police confirmed that all three suspects have been taken into custody and an investigation is ongoing.
