Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a stern warning to all departments and agencies against digging city roads without prior permission in the run-up to the festival season.
Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar directed officials to conduct checks across all wards and ensure no potholes or digging activity takes place without clearance. The instructions came during a review of the ‘Har Din Har Gali’ campaign, after complaints were received about unauthorised digging and open pits causing inconvenience and posing accident risks to residents.
Officials have been ordered to take immediate legal action if any department or agency is found digging roads without permission. Safety measures, including warning signboards and barricades, must be placed at all excavation sites. Agencies have also been instructed to complete works within the given timeframe and restore the roads promptly. Regular progress reports will have to be submitted to the corporation.
“During festivals, traffic and crowds increase in the city, and in such a situation, open pits or unauthorised digging pose a serious danger to citizens,” Parashar said. “The municipal corporation will not tolerate negligence on this matter.”
Citizens have been urged to register complaints about unauthorised digging or unsafe pits on the corporation’s helpline number 155304. Officials said public cooperation will be vital in ensuring safer and more convenient roads during the festive period.
