Patna: Dengue fever continues to spread across Patna district, with 20 new cases reported on Saturday alone. Health officials have confirmed that both city areas and nearby villages are being affected. Some of the worst-hit areas include Musallahpur Haat, Sultanganj, Machhuatoli, Bazar Samiti, and Boring Road. Other affected places are Bhikhana Pahari, Rajapur Pul, Aashiyana, Digha Ghat, SK Puri, and Khajekalan. Rural parts like Phulwari, Danapur, Fatuha, and Bakhtiyarpur are also seeing a rise in infections.
So far in 2025, a total of 1,021 dengue cases have been recorded in Patna. Out of these, 724 are men and 297 are women. The number of patients remained low in the first half of the year, with only 53 cases from January to June. However, the situation changed quickly in the past two months. In September alone, 540 new cases were reported. In just the first 10 days of October, another 186 patients were diagnosed.
Even though this year’s numbers are lower compared to last year, health officials are still concerned. By this time in 2024, over 2,200 dengue cases had been reported. Civil Surgeon Dr Avinash Kumar Singh has asked people to take all possible precautions to prevent mosquito breeding. He warned against letting water collect in coolers, buckets, plant pots, and open containers, as these can become breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Dr Singh also advised residents to wear clothes that cover the full body and to go for a blood test if they feel symptoms such as fever, body aches, or a drop in platelets. These are common signs of dengue and should not be ignored. With the festival season and changing weather ahead, health officials are increasing awareness efforts and asking everyone to stay alert and follow basic safety steps.
