Nalanda: In a shocking incident in Bihar’s Nalanda district, five members of a family consumed poison on Friday evening. Four of them have died, while one is fighting for his life in the hospital. The family was under a debt of Rs 5 lakh, which may have pushed them to take this step.
The family lived in a rented house near Jalmandir in Pawapuri. Those who consumed poison include husband Dharmendra Kumar (43), wife Rita Devi (40), son Bhola Kumar (15), and daughters Ariya Raj (17) and Soni Kumari (16). The wife and three children died during treatment. The husband is still in critical condition at Bhagwan Mahavir Medical Institute Hospital.
Police said that their younger son, Shivam Kumar alias Bhola Kumar (11), did not consume poison. He has been taken to the police station for questioning. The family had shifted to Pawapuri from Purnakama village of Sheikhpura district six months ago and was in the clothing business.
Police officers, including Rajgir DSP Sunil Kumar, are investigating the case. They said that the exact reason for the poisoning is not yet confirmed, but initial reports suggest that the family was under heavy debt and was being pressured to repay the loan.
