Patna: Dengue infections have started rising sharply in Patna, with 167 cases confirmed in the city up to August 31, including 97 cases reported in August alone.
The latest figures indicate a rapid increase in dengue transmission in the capital. As many as 40 new cases were detected in the past 10 days, while 18 cases were reported during the last five days.
Between January and June, Patna reported 44 dengue cases. The number increased by 26 in July before rising sharply to 97 in August — nearly four times the number recorded in July.
Civil Surgeon Dr Yogendra Prasad Mandal said dengue patients have been detected through testing at both government and private hospitals and laboratories.
“Fogging and anti-larval spraying are being carried out in affected areas with the support of the municipal corporation,” Mandal said, adding that larvicidal spraying is also scheduled to be undertaken.
Dengue hotspots yet to receive larvicidal spraying
Several areas of Patna continue to report a relatively high number of dengue cases, including Kankarbagh, Postal Park, Yogipur, Jakkanpur, Mahendra Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Boring Road, Buddha Colony, Patliputra Colony, Digha, Rupaspur, Anisabad, Patna City and Gulzarbagh.
Despite the rising number of cases, residents in some of these hotspots have alleged that larvicidal spraying has not been carried out.
Suryakant, a resident of Sandalpur, said three members of his family contracted dengue within a week. He alleged that larvicidal spraying had not been carried out in the area so far.
Similarly, Anmol, a resident of Digha, said anti-larval spraying had not yet been conducted in his locality.
Councillor calls for stricter action
Ward councillor Indradeep Chandravanshi said there was laxity in larvicidal spraying in several wards.
“With dengue cases increasing, the municipal corporation needs to take concrete action and fix direct accountability for the campaign at the ground level,” he said.

The sharp increase in dengue cases in August has raised concerns as the city enters the peak period for mosquito-borne diseases. Health officials and the municipal authorities are expected to intensify preventive measures, including fogging, anti-larval and larvicidal spraying, particularly in areas reporting higher numbers of cases.
